Re-Flat has been an ongoing body of work that is fixated on the mode of making within photography, and the blur of modernistic aesthetics and future life through physical and digital manipulation. With the observance of representation and the ephemerality of the instantaneous photographic moment, Re-Flat plays on these notions by creating ephemeral constructed tableaus of portrait images. By creating an image, a specific moment is captured within the camera and thereafter that moment is universally non-existent besides said documentation. This is re-contextualized and expanded upon via the printed image and how it plays on the various perceptions and physical formalities of structure by which the viewer of an image may look. This allows the viewer to now re-contemplate the original image through the layering process of photographing, printing, and then re-photographing that has now captured and re-assembled the moment in a differentiated state of objecthood. Through these assemblage methods, this work explores both the realities of the limitations of the photograph, and the future possibilities and opportunities that may be explored beyond the established approach to the making of a photograph.
